BEAUTY FLASH: How to Apply Contour Makeup

If you're a beginner at doing contour makeup, this article will help you to see how fast and easy it really is to do––and to get right.

Applying Contour Makeup

  1. 1
Start with cleansed, moisturized skin. Before applying any make up to your face, ensure that your skin is clean and you have applied a good moisturizer. Choose a moisturizer designed for your skin type and ideally one that has an SPF built into it. Pat the moisturizer in gently and wait at least five minutes for it to be absorbed into your skin.

  2. 2
Know the correct tools. This is a key for the proper brush to use for your makeup. You may do full on coverage or just contour a feature you would like to alter with makeup.
  3. 3
Choose a foundation that is designed for your skin type and tone. A good foundation product and application can make a world of difference to your appearance.
  4. 5
Apply the concealer. To cover blemishes, apply concealer cream to the tip of a small, flat brush and dab any excess on the back of your hand.
    • Dot the concealer over the blemish. Clean the brush on a tissue, and then use it to blend the concealer into your skin.
    • Dot concealer from the bridge of your nose to halfway under the eye.
    • Use a brush, sponge or your fingertips to blend the concealer.
    • Do not apply concealer right up to your lower lashes, as this will make your eyes appear smaller and the dark under eye circles even darker.
  5. 6
Apply the powder. The golden rule when it comes to powder is less is definitely more.
    • Load your powder brush with loose powder and lightly flick it on the back of your hand to get rid of any excess.
    • Begin with light movements over the central areas of your face. Lightly push the powder into the areas around your nostrils and then dust your eyelids and ears lightly.

  6. 7
Carefully apply the eyeshadow. The shade and way you apply your eye makeup will depend on what kind of look you're going for. For a basic casual daytime look, choose a color palette with three shades of the same family––neutrals work best for daytime. Apply the lightest shade over the entire lid.
    • Apply the second shade in the crease of your lid and gently blend into the first shade. Apply this medium shade lightly under your lower lashes.
    • Apply the third (darkest) shade to the outer corner of your eye, blending it in with the medium shade.
  7. 8
Put on the mascara. Place the mascara brush at the base of your eyelashes, under your lashes. Wiggle the brush gently as you slowly pull it through your lashes. Repeat if necessary.
  8. 9
Define your eyebrows. The easiest way to define your brows is to use an eyebrow pencil. Choose one in a shade lighter than your hair colour.
    • Brush your brows using an eyebrow brush and ensure the tip of the pencil is sharp.
    • Work along your brow using short, upward, diagonal movements. Use a cotton swab to soften any areas that look too dark or hard.

  9. 10
Contour your cheeks. Using a medium-sized blush brush dipped in a blusher of your choice, lightly brush your cheeks in an upward motion. To make your face appear slimmer, suck your cheeks in and apply your blush to the hollow in your cheeks.
  10. 11
Make your lips beautiful. With so many options to choose from when it comes to making your lip look ultra kissable, it simply boils down to your personal preferences.

    • Apply a subtle, naturally-coloured lip liner along your lips, taking care not to go outside of your natural lip line.
    • Apply a lipstick of your choice.
    • Blot with a tissue and then apply a second coat. You can finish off the look with a dab of gloss in the centre of your bottom lip.

  11. 12
Make it last. It's disappointing to spend plenty of time putting on your “face” only to look in the mirror a few hours later to find your mascara has smudged, your powder has worn off and your eyeshadow has creased.
    • Immediately after applying your make up, use a face spray product (like Mac’s Fix+) that prolongs your make up and makes it last throughout the day.

  12. 13
As with most things in life, the basics need to be learned before you can start experimenting and going wild with your own make up look. Just keep in mind that make up is not there to completely change your appearance––it is there to enhance your already beautiful features.

Tips

  • Makeup isn't about rules––it’s about experimenting and having fun with a look that complements your features. However, applying make up can seem like a daunting task if you are not very experienced or know how to apply it properly. Just keep doing it, and you will get better with practice.

MODEL TIPS: Secrets to Become a Model if You're Short

You don't need to be statuesque to become a model. Women who are 5'5" and under can be signed with an agency as long they know their limits and their strengths. If you work where your strengths play out then you can be more successful.

Steps

  1. 1
Take a few photographs of yourself to see how you respond to the lens. Your face and your ability to work with it in front of the camera are two key characteristics an agency will look at first. Consider getting the photos professionally done. Professional photography, even if it is expensive, will give you a better idea of what kind of look you project. You will eventually need these photographs to snag an interview, so think of it as a worthwhile investment!

  2. 2
Do some research on modeling agencies. Check out their websites and their signed girls to see how well you fit in. Concentrate on girls with your height, and compare your measurements and looks with them to see how you stack up. There are agencies that represent girls who are 5'5" and under, but be realistic: these agencies will most likely not be well-known.

  1. 3
Consider your options. Taking the road less traveled might work in your favor.
    • Consider going to other countries to pursue a modeling career. Models in Asia are usually under 5'6", and it may be easier for you to find work there.
    • Look outside of New York, Los Angeles, or any other major city where supermodels are most apt to be signed. Instead, look at agencies in smaller cities. It is better to start small and work your way up. Also, you can gain essential experience with working your way up.
    • Consider going into catalog work, as this is an area with a lot of work, and which uses all body shapes. Catwalk models have strict height and weight guidelines, so that they actually fit into the clothes that are made!

  2. 4
Work on your body and your attitude. Because models are generally 5'8" or taller, shorter girls will have to make up for this deficit by overcompensating with other attributes. Don't give an agency an excuse to let you go. Tone up, slim down (if necessary), and work on your confidence and physical expression. You may have to take impromptu photos for the interviewer to see how capable you are at working with your face. Concentrate on your eyes, and learn how to project different emotions without moving the rest of your face.

  1. 5
Commercial print agencies accept models of all heights, and sizes. Also Parts modeling agencies work with models for parts modeling including hand modeling, shoe modeling, body modeling, hair and shoe modeling, and these are very in style in the modeling business, it is not just fashion. A petite successful model is Isobella Jade. You are a perfect girl/boy to become a model. Don't let anyone slow you down.

  1. 6
Follow the example of shorter models who have found success: Barbara Palvin, Charlotte Free and Cara Delevingne are just a few examples of models under 5"9 that have made it in the industry.

Tips

  • Remember that many successful models are under 5'8. Kate Moss, for example, is only 5'6, and she is still regarded as one of the most prominent fashion icons.
  • Follow these steps in addition to the instructions for how to become a model.
  • You're likely to be most successful if you remain realistic and market yourself correctly. If you're 5ft3, it's unlikely you're going to be opening a show at A Fashion Week in the near future so don't get too hung up on aiming for such jobs.

Warnings

  • There are a lot of people out to exploit a pretty face. Don't let the idea of fame and fortune lure you inside when it's not backed up by something solid. Read some of the horror stories online to know what to avoid. Talk to real models and ask them what they would recommend, where they learned their biggest lessons, what their bests and worst times were. Get informed. Although this is important for all would-be models, it is even more so for shorter girls who will probably have to take non-mainstream routes.

BEAUTY FLASH: How to Curl Hair with a Curling Iron

A curling iron can be used to create tight, formal curls, big, bold waves, thin spirals, or thick tube curls. To curl hair with a curling iron, try one of the following methods. Here is a guide on wikiHow to curl hair with a curling iron.

Step

  1. 1
Heat up the curling iron. Turn on the curling iron and heat it to 320 degrees for fine hair and 430 degrees for thicker hair.[1] Experiment to find the right temperature for you. It's best to go with the lowest temperature that does the job. This is going to damage your hair less.

  1. 2
Brush your hair thoroughly. Make sure there are no tangles or your curls won’t form properly. Your hair should be completely dry before you curl it. Blow dry any damp sections.
  2. 3
Apply a heat protectant to your hair. This product is usually sprayed onto dry hair. The heat protectant will form a buffer between your locks and the iron to add shine and prevent damage at high temperatures.
  3. 4
Separate your hair into sections. Sections should be about 2-3 inches wide and there should be about three-four sections from the bottom to the crown of your head. Separate the sections using clips so that the only hair hanging has either been curled already or is the next section of hair that is going to be curled.
  4. 5
Working in sections, curl your hair. Using just the wand (and not the clamp at the bottom of the wand that "holds" the hair as it curls), wrap your section of hair around the barrel. Be sure not to overlap your hair, as this will reduce heat and result in limp sections. Use your fingers to hold the edge of the section of hair close to the barrel without burning your hair. Doing this rather than using the clamp will prevent crimps in the curls.
    • Be sure to alternate the curling direction between clockwise and counterclockwise for a more natural effect.
  5. 6
Once a curl is down, quickly pin it up. Grabbing the bottom of the curl, compact the curl to create a perfect curl. Use a bobby pin or a similar hair clip to fasten the circle of hair to your head.
  6. 7
Continue until all of your hair is pinned up. then wait until the curls are no longer hot before you take off the clips.
  7. 8
. After the hair is cool, take off all the bobby pins. Shake out the curls and fix any curls that are messed up
  8. 9
Manipulate curled hair, if desired. Unless you want to leave it in its current, more formal arrangement, tousle it with your fingers or tease it slightly. Tousling large curls is a great way to create waves.
  9. 10
Lightly spray hairspray to give your curls hold. Do not over-spray, as this will make your hair crispy and/or weigh it down.

Method 1 of 2: Top-to-Bottom Curling Method (Spiraling Curls)

  1. 1
Grab one strand of hair to curl. For tighter curls, grab smaller sections.
  2. 2
Squeeze the curling iron open and place it near the top of a section of hair. Keep the iron squeezed open for now.
  3. 3
Manually wrap the entire section of hair around the iron rod.
  4. 4
Clamp the hair inside the iron for approximately 10 seconds. Your actual time may vary depending on your curling iron and heat settings, so if you need to experiment, on the low side in the beginning.
  5. 5
Loosen your hair and repeat on the next section. It will help to unclamp and clamp the iron as you loosen, but be careful not to touch the iron in the process.

Method 2 of 2: Bottom-to-Top Curling Method (Tube Curls)

  1. 1
Grab one section of hair to curl. For tighter curls, grab smaller sections and for less tighter curls take bigger sections .
  2. 2
Squeeze the curling iron open and place it near the bottom of a section of hair. It may help to loosely clamp the hair higher up and then slide it down. Angling the iron slightly will make your hair easier to curl and prevent the curls from sticking too far out from the side of your head.
  3. 3
Clamp the curling iron shut and twist it so that the hair spirals around it. The flatter your hair spreads out beneath the clip, the more heat each strand of hair will receive. For full-length curls, twist the iron until it approaches your scalp, being very careful not to touch the curling iron. Curl your hair away from your face not towards.
  4. 4
Hold the hair inside the iron for approximately 10 seconds. Your actual time may vary depending on your curling iron and heat settings, so if you need to experiment, on the lower side in the beginning.
  5. 5
Loosen your hair and repeat on the next section. It will help to unclamp and clamp the iron as you loosen, but be careful not to touch the iron to your skin in the process.
  6. 6
    Finished.

LIFESTYLE: How to Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin

Changing Your Perspective Embracing Yourself Making Changes

Do you feel uncomfortable whenever you walk into a room? Do you tend to hang back, stay quiet, and try not to put yourself out there? If you do, then don’t worry – plenty of people don’t feel comfortable in their own skins. But that can stop today. You have to realize that you do have a lot to offer, and you have to start putting yourself out there if you want to see results. So how do you feel comfortable in your own skin? Just follow along to find out.

Part 1 of 3: Changing Your Perspective

  1. 341550 1.jpg
    1
Think positively. You may think that some people are just naturally more positive than others. That’s not necessarily wrong, but don’t let lazy thinking keep you from making a decision to be more positive. If you want to feel comfortable in your own skin, then you have to start thinking about the best thing that can happen to you instead of always expecting the worst. Any time you catch yourself thinking negatively, fight your negative thoughts with at least two or three positive ones. Make an effort to rationalize your negative thoughts away and to expect good things to happen to you; the more you expect good things to happen, the more they will.
    • Let’s say you’re going to a party where you won’t know a lot of people. If you catch yourself thinking, “I’m probably going to spend all of my time hanging out alone by the pita and hummus,” you should fight off that negative feeling. Instead tell yourself, “Maybe I’ll make a new friend tonight,” or “I’ll have a great time catching up with the few people I know.”
    • Negative thinking keeps us from embracing new opportunities and putting ourselves out there. Sure, not everything you do will turn out for the best, but the more you try, the more you’ll gain. Remember that half of your success will come from just showing up.

    341550 2.jpg
  2. 2
Stop banking on compliments. You may suddenly feel great about yourself when someone tells you that you look amazing, or when a friend compliments an aspect of your personality. But the compliments will come and the compliments will go, and at the end of the day, your self-worth shouldn’t depend on what other people say about you, whether it’s good or bad. A compliment can make you feel better, of course, but you should never depend on them. Get used to complimenting yourself instead.
    • There’s nothing wrong with feeling a little burst of happiness after a compliment, but you just can’t let them define you.
    • Instead, work on giving other people compliments when it feels right. Feel good about making other people feel good.
      341550 2b2.jpg
  3. 3
Develop your confidence. Being confident is the key to feeling comfortable in your own skin, and it’s obviously easier said than done. Confidence comes from within, and developing your confidence means feeling good about who you are, where you are, and what you have to bring to the table. If you can’t stand what you see in the mirror and feel like you have nothing to contribute to a conversation, then you can’t move forward. Work on finding at least a few things that you love about yourself, and with being happy with how you look instead of getting lost in self-consciousness.
    • Developing confidence takes a lifetime. But you can’t start until you make a commitment to start changing the way you feel about yourself.
    • The next time you’re hanging out with other people, stop obsessing about how you look or sound and enjoy the moment of the conversation. This is the first step to making your doubts disappear.
  4. 341550 4.jpg
    4
Get comfortable with your flaws. Nobody’s perfect, and the sooner you realize that, the sooner you can learn to love yourself and change the way you feel. Figure out what your flaws are – maybe you have really stringy hair, maybe you think you’re too tall, or maybe you just tend to be a little socially awkward. Whatever your flaws are, write them down and get comfy with them. Don’t deny that there are things about yourself that aren’t ideal.
    • The next step will be working on changing the things you can change and accepting the things you can’t.
    • Look around you. How many people do you know who are truly perfect? Chances are, the answer is zero. And if you really think someone you know is perfect, then you probably just don’t know that person well enough.
  5. 5
Remember that it only matters if you think you’re beautiful. It’s great if your boyfriend, best friends, and everyone around you thinks you’re beautiful, but that doesn’t matter one bit if you’re convinced that you’re ugly. Even a supermodel can feel completely insecure and inadequate, and what you think on the inside is much more important than how people view you on the outside. Know that the first step to feeling beautiful is really thinking that you are beautiful, flaws and all. If other people agree, then great, but in the end, it really makes no difference.
    • Stop staring at yourself in the mirror, bemoaning all of your imperfections. Instead, look in the mirror and think, “Wow, my hair looks great today!” Or, “My eyes look pretty in this light.” But best of all, stop wasting so much time looking in the mirror.
    • If you start to think you’re beautiful, people will be able to sense that. And guess what? That will make you even more beautiful.
  6. 6
Honor your strengths. Don’t say that there’s nothing good about you—that’s impossible. There must be at least a few things you love about yourself, from your great laugh to your ability to be a great friend and an amazing listener. Don’t let those things be ignored. If you love your laugh, laugh as much as you can; if you know you’re a great friend, spend time with your close friends instead of holing up on your own. Make sure you have a chance to let your strengths shine.
    • The more time you spend on showing off your strengths, the better you’ll feel about yourself. And really, you don’t have to think of it as showing off – you’re just putting your best self forward.
  7. 341550 7.jpg
    7
Meditate. Meditating can help you feel more comfortable in your own skin because it will help you feel attuned to your body and your breath. Take 10-15 minutes a day to sit down in a comfortable place, and work on relaxing every part of your body one at a time. Focus on the sound and feeling of your breath rising in and out of your body and let all of the noise and worries of the day melt away. This will help you feel more calm and more comfortable with who you are, and will help you get rid of all of those distractions that can crowd your days.
    • Make a habit of meditating at least once or twice a day and you’ll quickly be able to see what a big difference it makes.
    • If mediation works for you, you can also try yoga. Yoga also lets you focus on your mind and body and adds movement to your thinking.

Part 2 of 3: Embracing Yourself

  1. 341550 8.jpg
    1
Learn to love yourself. Truly loving yourself can take a lifetime, so why not start today? Be comfortable with the way you look, smell, sound, act, and react to situations. Work on finding a happiness from within and letting it radiate out. If you don’t love yourself, then it won’t matter how many other people do. It’s just like thinking that you’re beautiful – you have to feel it first before it matters if anyone else does. Give yourself enough “me time” to learn to really love the person you are, to do the things that matter to you, and to quiet your mind so you can focus on what’s right in front of you.
    • If you’re feeling really overwhelmed by the world, give yourself a day of silence to avoid television, the Internet, your phone, or any other distractions. Focus on just inhabiting your own mind and body.
    • Keep a journal. Keep track of your progress and be honest about any disappointments you’re facing.
  2. 341550 9.jpg
    2
Embrace your quirks. Quirks are what make us stand out and they should not be treated as flaws. So maybe you have incredibly curly hair. Maybe you grew up in an unusual family with seven siblings. Maybe you’re obsessed with foreign languages or bird watching. Should you keep these things hidden? Absolutely not. Love the things that make you different and stop trying to fit in. Tell people about your quirky upbringing with pride, show off those tight curls instead of spending hours fighting a losing battle with a hair straightener, and let people see your passion for your hobbies.
    • Okay, so if you know that one of your interests is a little unusual – an obsession with spiders, or your love for yodeling – then you don’t have to bring it up the second you meet someone new. But once you’re comfortable with a person, don’t be afraid to share the things you love.
    • Embracing your quirks will help you love yourself and feel comfortable in your own skin. If you try to hide your quirks, then you’ll end up feeling ashamed of who you really are.
  3. 341550 10.jpg
    3
Take responsibility for your life. This will help you embrace who you really are. Sure, some people are more lucky than others, but if you want to feel comfortable in your own skin, then you can’t use your looks, your upbringing, your relationships, or your past experiences as an excuse for failure. You failed that math test because you didn’t study, not because you’re not smart; you were a bad girlfriend because you got lazy, not because your parents didn’t pay enough attention to you. The sooner you own up to your problems, the sooner you can cease control and start changing things for the better.
    • The next time you catch yourself making an excuse for something that happened, ask yourself what the real source was. Was it laziness, just an honest mistake, or a negative attitude?
  4. 341550 11.jpg
    4
Dance. Dancing can help you take possession of your body, let loose, and feel comfortable with who you are. You don’t need to have great rhythm to look and feel great on the dance floor – all you need is a bit of confidence and the determination to have a great time. You can dance with your girlfriends, or even sign up for a salsa, hip hop, or modern dance class by yourself or with a friend.
    • Feeling uncomfortable with your belly? Take a belly dancing class. Nothing will make you feel more comfortable with your body faster.
  5. 5
Take care of your body. Make sure to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep, to shower daily, and to pay attention to hygiene. You may not feel comfortable in your own skin because you’re always feeling tired or unhappy with the way you feel. Taking the time to maintain your health can help you fix that. Take long baths. Pamper yourself. Make sure to eat three balanced meals a day. All of this will make you feel happier to be who you are, and happier about sharing that with the world.
    • You won’t be comfortable in your own skin if you only shower every three days. Feeling clean can help you feel comfortable.
    • Taking care of your body doesn’t mean putting on makeup and looking like a model when you leave the house. It just means giving your body the time and effort it deserves.
  6. 341550 13.jpg
    6
Exercise. You don’t need to have a six-pack or to be in top shape to put some time into exercise each week. Working out for just half an hour a day or an hour every other day will improve your mood, keep your heart strong, and make you feel better about the way you look and feel. Even taking a 20 minute walk every day can help you feel better about getting out of the house, and improve your mindset just by being in the fresh air.
    • Choose activity over inactivity whenever you can. Walk 15 minutes to the grocery store instead of driving. Walk to the fourth floor of your office building instead of taking the elevator. These small changes can make a big difference.
    • If you find it hard to motivate yourself to work out on your own, take a yoga or barre class with a friend, or join a team sport. Exercise can be a social thing, too.
  7. 341550 14.jpg
    7
Hang out only with the people who make you feel good. A big part of embracing who you are and feeling comfortable in your own skin is being around people who support you and make you feel good about yourself. Dump those toxic friends who are always bringing you down, being negative, and ignoring you in favor of their own narcissism. Work on hanging out with the people who compliment you, care about how you feel, and treat you with care and love.
    • Sure, getting rid of a long-time friend who treats you poorly isn’t easy, but it’s the only way to start embracing who you are.
  8. 341550 15.jpg
    8
Walk into a room like you own it. People who aren’t comfortable in their own skin walk in to a room like they don’t belong there and tend to keep a low profile. The next time you walk into a room, keep your head high, smile, and sit in a chair like it’s your favorite comfy chair at home. Though you shouldn’t kick your feet up at a new person’s home, treat the place like your own living room, and be comfortable inhabiting a new space. People will be able to tell that you feel like you belong there, and like you’ve earned your place there.
    • If you project confidence in a new situation, you’ll be much more likely to feel it.

Part 3 of 3: Making Changes

  1. 1
Address your flaws. Though you can’t fix everything, you can certainly make an effort to become the person you want to be. If you think you’re too shy, work on being more outgoing. If you know you’re a bitter person, work on letting the bitterness go and start feeling grateful for all of the good things in your life. If you think you give up too easily, then work on your persistence. You won’t be able to “fix” all of your flaws, but making an effort at improvement will make you feel better.
    • You can’t give yourself a complete personality makeover, but you can certainly work on emphasizing the good and overcoming the bad.
    • Admitting weakness and working to change it takes character. Be proud of yourself for trying to change.
  2. 341550 17.jpg
    2
Stop complaining. Whining and complaining will only make you feel worse about who you are. Sure, everyone needs to vent from time to time, but try to keep most of those complaints to yourself, unless you think that talking about them can help you find a solution. Complaining will only make you feel worse and will make the world look like a terrible, unfair place; what’s more, is it’ll make people less likely to hang out with you.
    • The next time you catch a complaint coming out of your mind, force yourself to say something positive afterwards.
  3. 341550 18.jpg
    3
Fix whatever’s not working. Whatever you’re doing is clearly not working if you’re unhappy in your own skin. Maybe your job is wearing you down. Maybe your group of friends always makes you feel terrible. Maybe you feel like you just don’t fit in in the place where you live. Ask yourself about what’s really not working in your life, and see if you can feasibly change it. It’ll be hard to feel comfortable in your own skin if something you’re doing regularly is making you feel terrible about yourself.
    • Be honest. Sit down and write all of the things that make you feel uncomfortable. It could end up being something that you don’t want to face, like a relationship that’s just not working. But the sooner you realize the source of your pain, the better.
  4. 341550 19.jpg
    4
Improve your posture. You’ll be surprised by how big a difference you’ll feel just from standing tall, looking straight ahead of you, keeping your arms at your sides, and avoiding slouching at all costs. You will look taller, feel stronger and more confident, and you’ll also find it easier to inhabit your own body. Make an effort to keep your spine straight as often as you can, whether you’re alone or with others, sitting or standing, and notice how much more comfortable you feel.
    • Sure, it’s easier to slouch, at first, but once you get used to standing tall, you won’t even have to think about it.
  5. 341550 20.jpg
    5
Find a new passion. Finding a new passion can help you mix things up and look at yourself and the world in a new way. Take up photography. Try a modern dance class. See if you have a knack for writing short stories. It doesn’t matter what you do – what matters is that it matters to you. Think of something you’ve always been afraid to try and see if you love it as much as you thought you would. You don’t have to be great at it, either – the most important thing is that you care.
    • Making as commitment to something you really care about will also make you spend more time thinking about the things that matter to you and less time worrying about yourself.
  6. 341550 21.jpg
    6
Get creative. Being creative can help you improve your self-worth, find feelings you didn’t know you had, and feel great about what you have to offer to the world. Even if you don’t think you’re the creative type, you may end up surprising yourself. Write a poem. Get some colored pencils and sketch a landscape. Take a ceramics class. Do something completely out of your comfort zone and see what you come up with. Getting creative will help you see the world in a new way and will make you more comfortable with who you are.
    • Make creativity a habit, no matter how silly it feels, at first. You’ll quickly see that you’re expressing feelings you didn’t know you had.

Make laughter a bigger part of your life. Anyone can stand to laugh more. Whether you’re cracking jokes, hanging out with people who make you laugh, or watching at least one comedy a week, the more you laugh, the more comfortable you’ll feel about being yourself. Don’t think that laughter is just an unnecessary frill reserved for people with a lot of free time – treat laughter as something sacred that you should have the privilege of doing as often as possible.
    • When you’re truly laughing, you won’t be able to stop and doubt yourself. True laughter will make you embrace the moment and feel happy being yourself.

FASHIONSOLUTION: How to Look Like a Real Model

How to Look Like a Real Model

Being a model means being comfortable with yourself, loving the way you look, and being happy. Models have a confident aura about them. Even the most conventionally beautiful models carry themselves with an aura that exudes style, grace, and health. They have a glow in their photos: that glow is confidence. Follow along after the jump to learn how to get in touch with your own inner model and, who knows, maybe even get discovered.

Steps

  1. Beautiful faces 7.jpg

    1
Be your own makeup artist. Makeup is amazing, and any fashionista knows that. You can transform into so many different looks if you have the necessary tools and skills.
    • Look through fashion magazines and practice the looks you see on yourself and your friends. Then invent your own looks and perfect them.
    • Being able to apply makeup like a pro is a must for an aspiring model. It requires practice, practice, and more practice.

Be seen. What does it matter to look gorgeous if the only one that sees it is your family and your teddy bears? Go out dancing with your friends, or dining, or whatever it is you like to do. Have fun and live it out.

Have an aura. How you carry yourself affects how people perceive you more than you think!
    • Perk up that chin, throw those shoulders back, and glide through the air as if you just signed a ten million dollar contract.
    • At home, practice carrying books on your head.
    • Move like a dancer. Keep your head back, chin up, and shoulders down and back. Remember that every moment is a potential pose!

Be fashionable. This one is a given, but a lot of people don't realize how wrong they look in the clothes they wear. Learn about your body type, height, skin tone and preferences.
    • Discover yourself, and fashion will come to you. Rid yourself of any insecurities, because you can look bad in a Gucci & Manolo shoes if your shoulders are slouching and you have a scared look on your face.
    • You don't have to wear designer clothes, especially if you can't afford them. Just look through fashion magazines, pick your favourites and then find look-a-likes. Remember: clothes don't make you, they complement you.
    • Being fashionable is all about knowing different styles. No one is expecting you to dress like it's fashion week 24/7. Being knowledgeable about which clothes work and which ones don't, which styles are in and which ones aren't, will allow you to turn up the heat, so to speak, when you want to, and tone it down when appropriate.

  6. Smile because you want to 2.jpg

    5
Smile, and do it like you mean it. Models can be happy even though they might look bored or fierce on the runway. They make tons of cash, have lots of beautiful friends, attend the hottest parties, and let's not forget that their job is to walk around in really expensive clothes. So generally, they appear to have good lives.
    • Who cares that you're broke, know no celebrities, and flip burgers for a living? Just make sure you're the happiest burger flipper in your joint! Smile, be merry, and people will notice that.
    • To smile genuinely, you have to be genuinely happy with yourself. Some models are unhappy, some have eating disorders and use unhealthy means to lose weight. Just because they do that, doesn't mean you have to.
    • Don't hide behind your smile all the time. If you are unhappy about something, express your opinion—the key to being a good model is the ability to emote.

Make sure every part of your body is as flawless as you can make it. We all have this idea that models are perfect human beings with perfect superpowers, but they're just normal men and women like you and me. Of course, they have been refined, polished, re-invented, and perfected. You can be all of these as well, with proper maintenance!
    • Don't bite your nails and always keep them polished.
    • This doesn't mean you have to always have nail polish on. Just make sure to buff your nails and maintain them.
    • Keep your feet in impeccable conditions at all times (you never know when you will have to take your shoes off and dance on the tables!).
    • Soft elbows and knees are important too!
    • To get softer skin, try to exfoliate your skin at least twice a week with something simple like white sugar and lemon juice mixed together.
    • Keep those pearly whites pearly white! Use whitening strips if you need to, and stay far away from cigarettes and coffee, which will turn them yellow. Always use enamel safe teeth whitening or else your teeth could chip off or become see through and very unhealthy.
    •

    7
Get fit. Being healthy is a million times more important than being thin. Check with your doctor to find out your proper weight range and work to get and stay within it.
    • Exercise, eat properly, and respect your body. You are what you eat, so learn to put good food into your body in order to be as healthy as you can be. As long as you're in your weight range, you'll look fabulous.
    • Drink plenty of water. Women need about nine cups of water (2.2 liters) on average — at least that's what doctors recommend! Drinking water will help your body process food, will keep you from drinking sugar-water, and will make your body feel full, even when it's not. Drinking green tea (without sugar) is an excellent alternative if you're tired of water. It's mostly water, and it's packed with tons of antioxidants.
    • If you're already happy with your body, then you can still look like a model. You don't have to be thin to look like a model. You don't have to lose weight to look great. Don't want to change? You can still look fab!
  9.
    8
Learn about countries with an active fashion scene. Travel the world or watch the Travel Channel. Professional models learn to feel at home in any part of the world, and so must you—or at least you can pretend!
  10.
  11. SDC16347 Woman wearing leather.jpg

    9
Looking like a model doesn't mean you have to cake yourself with makeup. Models don't, so you shouldn't either.
    • Moisturize every morning.
    • Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler.
    • Use bronzer if it suits you, but don't be afraid to embrace your natural skin colour. Foundation should be light.
    • Eye shadow is nice also but don't overdo it. Eyeliner and mascara are better in brown or similar natural colours. (Check out some young, natural models. They don't cake on their makeup; they're super natural and beautiful!)
    • Makeup should be about enhancing your beauty, not covering it up. As a model you wear natural-looking makeup until you're retired from modelling.

  12. When in Doubt Wear a Great Pair of Shoes.jpg

    10
Mind your style, top to bottom! There are two things that can make or break your look: your hair and your shoes.
    • Look through magazines and talk with your hair stylist about what would look good with your facial structure. Always keep your hair clean and styled, and make sure you go back to the salon every 2-3 months as your hair grows.
    • Make sure the shade of your hair is vibrant; there's nothing worse than dull hair. If your colour is dull, consider dyeing it. If you don't want to colour your hair, use a shine serum to add a healthy shine.
    • Wear clean, nice shoes. Models wear sneakers too, but they wear them with style.
    • Just make sure your shoes aren't worn out, and that you can walk comfortably in them (a grimace accompanied by a limp from the pain of wearing a torturous pair of shoes is unbecoming). See the Tips section for more advice about shoes.

  13. Eri in black and white..jpg

    11
Clear skin is absolutely necessary. No zits, pimples, whiteheads, or acne.
    • Use a good face cleanser twice a day. Moisturize after each wash.
    • Have a good toner, spot treatment, and lotion. Use at night.
    • Do face masks and exfoliate once a week. Exfoliating more than once a week is unnecessary.
    • Drink lots of water. This helps your body flush out waste and harmful chemicals.
    • Get enough sleep (this has lots of benefits).
    • Wear concealer on anything you might have.
    • Wash off makeup at night — no doing the "I'm tired, I'll skip washing my face tonight."

  14. 12
Be confident. You'll never get anywhere if you don't believe in yourself.

FASHION SOLUTION: How to Look Good in High Fashion

How to Look High Fashion

Tired of that grungy, plain T-Shirt and jeans look? Jealous of all your friends that always look like they've just walked off a magazine? Want to be the fashion idol of all your friends and family? Good news -- it's not too hard. You don't even have to break the bank to get that high-fashion look. All you need is some determination...

Steps

  1. Look High Fashion Step 1 Version 2.jpg

    1
Take care of your body. Although we don't love to admit it, having a decent figure makes high fashion clothing look extremely sexy. Eat right(fruits and vegetables) and drink 8 glasses of water a day. Water clears out your complexion and balances your body.\

  1. Look High Fashion Step 2 Version 2.jpg

    2
If you are bigger, a fashionable wardrobe can still look stunning. Just make sure that you buy flattering clothes in cuts that emphasize your beauty, not your weight.
  2. Look High Fashion Step 3 Version 2.jpg

    3
Wear good, quality make-up. With makeup, it is all about quality, not quantity. The key to looking high fashion is not only having nice clothes, but a great face! Wear a subtle bronzer in the summer, and a moisturizer that will make your skin glow in the winter. Find out what colors go with your skin tone and eye color. Remember: try to emphasize one feature at a time. If you are wearing a bold lip color, try to keep the rest of your makeup modest, and if you have bold eye shadow or liner, keep the rest modest too.

  1. Look High Fashion Step 4 Version 2.jpg

    4
Add jewelery if you are looking too plain. The difference between a T-Shirt and jeans without and with a necklace is huge! Depending on the trend this rule will vary but for the most consistent "High-Fashion" go with more classic styles (pearls, gold, silver) and avoid too many plastic, enamel, or wooden accessories.

  1.
    5
Pick your trends wisely. No matter what the new fashion is you should be very selective on what trends to follow. No true Style Maven attacks every trend that drapes down the runway. You should own quality (which does not always mean designer) Jeans, and cotton shirts. Because we tend to buy accessories less often than clothing this may be where you should invest in your "statement" or designer pieces.

  1. Look High Fashion Step 6 Version 2.jpg

    6
Heels should be reserved for outings and gatherings. One who wears heels to the grocer, dry cleaner, or other similar environments may be deemed as "trashy." Shy away from running sneakers (although you should own a decent pair)for a more casual shoe consider a flat, loafer, or slide, and for summer a stylish espadrille leather sandal or flat.

  1.
    7
Be confident. No matter what label your clothing is, exude the confidence that you deserve. Wear the garment, don't let the garment wear you!

Tips

  • Notice what others are wearing and look for one specific article of clothing at a time.
  • Things such as fluro and plaid, which are in style at the moment, should not be the first thing you reach for.
  • When Shopping High Fashion, Keep It Clean.
  • I encourage shopping at any store that fancies you. For more high end pieces consider consignment or authorized discount vendors.
  • Go online and search for the next season's "must have" pieces of clothing!
